DIVAS Run Intro
An Atlanta native, Sherry L. Oswalt graduated from Kennesaw State University in 1998 and worked as a Software Trainer for nine years. After being laid off in 2009, she turned her running hobby into a goal of becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and Running Coach. She realized how running alleviated her everyday stress and wanted to share the same benefits with others that she experienced through physical exercise. Prior to working in Midtown as a Personal Trainer and Running Coach, she worked as a Physical Therapy Technician with Special Populations patients in Decatur, which helped expose her to a wide range of ages, abilities and medical conditions.
Currently, Sherry has been training small groups and individuals from teenagers to senior citizens, in small group settings and personal sessions. Clients perform functional, movement-based training that can be systematically progressed or regressed, based on their current fitness ability and any existing health issues.
While Sherry enjoys working with all ages and abilities, her main client base is the Atlanta running community. Sherry goes above and beyond coaching in order to train runners for races. She not only writes their individualized running plans but also helps them achieve their personal race goals through total body gait analysis. Using these results to target overactive and underactive muscles with self-myofascial release techniques and movement-based strength training, Sherry helps runners improve their running efficiency and form.
Besides dedicating her career to training and coaching other runners, Sherry also makes time to compete in local 5Ks and 10Ks and won 3rd place in her age group in Decatur’s Take Back the Night 5K in April 2010. She recently completed her third half-marathon and took 17 minutes off her half-marathon racing time due to her commitment to train smart.
Sherry is actively involved in the Atlanta community, working on two local 5K planning committees and hosts the Midtown Atlanta DIVAS Run Meetup Group. When she isn’t running around town, she enjoys reading and traveling. Her ultimate goal is to encourage others in their running and overall fitness goals and to not give up!
