We are officially a week in and finally it is time to embrace the New Year and everything it brings: new resolutions, new opportunities, new memories, and new races!
Saying goodbye to 2012 was bittersweet. I left a lot of great memories behind and fun times, but now it’s time to look forward to more of that. As every experienced runner knows, race day is also bittersweet. It’s exciting to finally be able to complete the race you’ve worked hard and trained hard for. Once the celebrations are done, it is time to relax and enjoy the reward of your accomplishment. Soon enough, it will be time to train for the next great race.
Here is a look back at my racing memories from 2012!
From late June to November 3rd, I co-coached the ACS DetermiNation Atlanta Team for the Savannah Rock N Roll race. Jumping in at various points to run with different ACS athletes was so much fun, and I had the privilege of being able to help our last marathoner get to the Finish Line. I even caught a couple of my personal training clients on camera during the race who I had also coached!
While co-coaching, I was also training along with the athletes for my half marathon, the Lady Speedstick Women’s Half marathon in St. Pete Beach, Florida on November 18th.
It was an exciting time for me to finally be able to check this race off the list. While I was just a couple of minutes off my goal time, I still took 15 minutes off my half marathon time so that makes me happy. It was a cold, windy race, and I was able to celebrate with friends and my boyfriend, who did a great job of catching me on film and cheering me on!
Attending the race on December 1st as an exhibitor for the second year in a row was exciting. The race has grown so much that it sold out this year! Look at all those people!
Don’t get left out . . . register at cMEcompete for the complete running series!
I also met some of my Twitter followers and cheered on my personal training clients who raced along with some of the ACS athletes I coached!
Now it’s time to plan for this year’s races. The next half marathon I have set my sights on is the Athleta IronGirl Half Marathon in Clearwater, Florida. Anything beyond that is up in the air at this point.
What are your favorite race memories from 2012? Which races do you plan to train for in 2013?
